We are in the planning stage for a trip to Alaska along with 2 other couples. We plan to leave our Modesto home the last week of May and cross into Canada on June first.
We were last in Alaska in 1992 when we went there in late may to Homer, where I had a job on a 6 pack Halibut fishing boat as a skipper. I worked for K-Bay charters. I got a skippers license shortly before going . I was licensed to take as many as 6 people no more than 100 miles offshore in a 100 ton vessel. During my time there I never skippered anything that approached 100 tonsor go 100 off shore. We did, however run 40 and 50 miles from the Homer Harbour. The license was good for 5 years, when it expired I didn't renew it. I enjoyed working the boat that one season and although I was asked to return the second year I turned it down. It was the hardest work I had done in years.
